How to check if an image is AI-generated

Add the image above and look at the AI section at the top of the results. The viewer checks three places:

A marker is strong evidence that an AI tool made or edited the image. No marker proves nothing: screenshots, messaging apps and social networks remove metadata, and some generators never add it.

Found something you'd rather not share?

Select Remove metadata on any image above. The tool removes every tag shown here and keeps the pixels exactly as they are. You can also start on the remove AI metadata page.

Questions

Can this tell me if an image was made with AI?

It shows whether the file says so. AI tools like ChatGPT, Firefly and Gemini write markers into the image, and the viewer highlights them. A file without markers may still be AI-generated, because metadata is easy to remove. Treat a marker as proof and a missing marker as no information.

What is C2PA?

C2PA (Content Credentials) is a signed record attached to an image describing how it was made and edited. OpenAI, Adobe, Google and Microsoft add it to AI images, and Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn read it to show AI labels.

Why does my photo show a location?

Phones save GPS coordinates in every photo when location access is on for the camera. Anyone who gets the original file can see where it was taken. Remove the metadata before sharing, or turn off location for your camera app.

Are my images uploaded?

JPEG, PNG and WebP files are read and cleaned by your browser and never leave your device. HEIC and TIFF files are sent over an encrypted connection to our server, where ExifTool cleans them. Each upload is deleted as soon as you download the clean copy, and always within 30 minutes. Images are never stored, shared or used for training.

Which formats can I check?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and TIFF, up to five images and 100 MB at a time.
