About CleanupAIMeta

Photos carry far more than pixels. This tool shows you what's hidden in an image and removes it, without touching the picture itself.

Why it exists

Every photo you take or edit collects metadata. Phones record where you were standing and which device you used. Editing apps record every tool they applied. AI generators and editors add markers that platforms like Instagram read to label images as AI.

Most of the time that data is invisible to you and plain to anyone who gets the file. We built CleanupAIMeta so you can see it and decide what to share.

How it works

  • JPEG, PNG and WebP are read and cleaned by code running in your browser. They never reach our server.
  • HEIC and TIFF are cleaned on our server with ExifTool, then deleted as soon as you download the result, and always within 30 minutes.
  • The tool cuts metadata out of the file and copies the image data unchanged. Nothing is re-compressed, so quality is identical.
  • After cleaning, the file is checked again to confirm nothing was left behind.

What we're clear about

  • We can't remove watermarks hidden in pixels, such as Google SynthID. Doing so would mean changing the image.
  • A file with no AI markers isn't proof that it's not AI-generated. Metadata is easy to remove.
  • The tool is meant for privacy and for real photos labelled by mistake. Where a platform or law requires you to disclose AI content, removing metadata doesn't change that.
